Wild weather is currently battering Belfast, Northern Ireland as well as other parts of the UK, so we’ve put together some steps to take to prevent further damage to property and to protect you and your family if a storm damages trees around your property.
Assess the storm damage:
- Are major limbs still remaining and intact and is the trunk unbroken? Are at least 50% of the branches still intact? If the answer is yes to these questions then there is a good chance of complete recovery.
Take safety precautions:
- Storm damaged trees might be in contact with electrical wires so avoid direct or indirect contact. Broken limbs dangling overhead may fall and lead to injury or death so avoid walking beneath these and do not cut any limbs as they may react unexpectedly. Do not try to remove trees or branches in close proximity to electrical wires yourself.
Clean up:
- Remove all debris such as broken branches and pruning’s (unless in close proximity to electrical wires) to help minimise the risk of further accidents or injury.
Small Trees:
- Small trees which have been uprooted should be straightened and stalked immediately to minimise damage.
Don’t do it yourself:
- Hire a qualified tree surgeonto professionally prune broken and split branches.
